How we score

Every bike gets up to 11 category scores from 0 to 10. The overall editorial score is their weighted average. Weights are public and applied identically to every bike.

Category	Weight	Built from
Performance	13%	Top Speed, Motor Power, Torque, Max Climb Grade
Range & Battery	15%	Battery Capacity, Range, Charge Time, Battery Cells
Build Quality	9%	Max Payload, Frame Material, Water Resistance (IP)
Components	6%	Gears, Drivetrain, Brakes
Comfort & Ride	9%	Tires, Suspension, Pedal Assist Sensor
Safety	10%	Battery Cells, Brakes, Lights, Safety Certification
Practicality	8%	Removable Battery, Max Payload, Rear Rack, Fenders, Kickstand
Portability	6%	Total Weight, Folding Frame
Ownership	6%	Warranty, Battery Warranty
Tech & Features	5%	Display, Throttle
Value	13%	Quality compared with what the price normally buys (price-aware)

Every numeric spec is scored on a fixed, real-world scale (for example 250 W is 3/10 and 750 W is 8/10). A bike keeps the same score no matter which other bikes we add.
Lower-is-better specs (weight, charge time) score higher the lower they are. Text specs such as brakes and suspension use an ordered ranking.
If a spec is unknown we treat it as average rather than guessing. A category with too little data gets no score, and each bike shows how complete its data is.
Value compares a bike's quality with what its price normally buys. A fairly priced bike scores 5.
An editor can override a category score. Overridden categories are marked on the bike page.
Visitor ratings are collected separately from readers, never blended into the editorial score, and shown with their vote count.
Scoring version 6. Scores are recalculated automatically when specs, weights or the catalog change.
